This was the second last sermon Pastor Bradford preached as pastor of Chinese Gospel Church Scarborough.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Sermon Outline:<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p><strong>I. Background of Philadelphia (v7a):<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>It&#8217;s founding purpose &#8211; to spread Greek philosophy and culture to the East<\/li>\n<li>It&#8217;s dangerous location &#8211; on a tectonic fault line<\/li>\n<li>It was located on a very important trade route<\/li>\n<li>It was religiously diverse<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>II. The Profile of Jesus Christ (v7b):<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The Holy One<\/li>\n<li>The True One<\/li>\n<li>The Sovereign One<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>III. The Commendation (v8-9):<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>They had been active<\/li>\n<li>They had kept His word<\/li>\n<li>They had not denied His name<\/li>\n<li>Two things working against them being true to the Lord:\n<ul>\n<li>Their weakness (v8)<\/li>\n<li>They were strongly opposed by the Jewish community in the city (v9)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>IV. The Appeal (v11):<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>STAY FAITHFUL!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>V. The Encouragements (v8-12):<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>His assurance (v8)<\/li>\n<li>His vindication (v9)<\/li>\n<li>His protection (v10 &amp; 11a)<\/li>\n<li>Honor (v12a)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em><strong>Jesus: &#8220;I will put on the one who is faithful:<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em><strong>My mark of ownership<\/strong><\/em><\/li>\n<li><em><strong>the mark of citizenship<\/strong><\/em><\/li>\n<li><em><strong>the mark of relationship&#8221;<\/strong><\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><strong>Scripture Passage:<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p><strong>Revelation 3:7-13 (ESV)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"text Rev-3-7\"><span class=\"woj\"><sup class=\"versenum\">7\u00a0<\/sup>\u201cAnd to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write: \u2018The words of\u00a0the holy one,\u00a0the true one,\u00a0who has the key of David,\u00a0who opens and no one will shut, who shuts and no one opens.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-ESV-30739\" class=\"text Rev-3-8\"><span class=\"woj\"><sup class=\"versenum\">8\u00a0<\/sup>\u201c\u2018I know your works. Behold, I have set before you\u00a0an open door, which no one is able to shut. I know that you have but little power, and yet you have kept my word and have not denied my name.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<span id=\"en-ESV-30740\" class=\"text Rev-3-9\"><span class=\"woj\"><sup class=\"versenum\">9\u00a0<\/sup>Behold, I will make those of\u00a0the synagogue of Satan who say that they are Jews and are not, but lie\u2014behold,\u00a0I will make them come and bow down before your feet, and they will learn that\u00a0I have loved you.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<span id=\"en-ESV-30741\" class=\"text Rev-3-10\"><span class=\"woj\"><sup class=\"versenum\">10\u00a0<\/sup>Because you have kept my word about patient endurance, I will keep you from the hour of trial that is coming on the whole world, to try\u00a0those who dwell on the earth.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<span id=\"en-ESV-30742\" class=\"text Rev-3-11\"><span class=\"woj\"><sup class=\"versenum\">11\u00a0<\/sup>I am coming soon.\u00a0Hold fast what you have, so that no one may seize\u00a0your crown.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<span id=\"en-ESV-30743\" class=\"text Rev-3-12\"><span class=\"woj\"><sup class=\"versenum\">12\u00a0<\/sup>The one who conquers, I will make him\u00a0a pillar in the temple of my God.
