Tim Grieves preached this sermon on June 23, 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Sermon Outline:<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Be a Spirit-Empowered, God-focused Christian on a Clear Mission<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Scripture Passage:<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>John 1:19-34 (ESV)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>19&nbsp;<\/sup>And this is the&nbsp;testimony of John, when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him,&nbsp;\u201cWho are you?\u201d&nbsp;<sup>20&nbsp;<\/sup>He confessed, and did not deny, but confessed, \u201cI am not the Christ.\u201d&nbsp;<sup>21&nbsp;<\/sup>And they asked him, \u201cWhat then?&nbsp;Are you Elijah?\u201d He said, \u201cI am not.\u201d \u201cAre you&nbsp;the Prophet?\u201d And he answered, \u201cNo.\u201d&nbsp;<sup>22&nbsp;<\/sup>So they said to him, \u201cWho are you? We need to give an answer to those who sent us. What do you say about yourself?\u201d&nbsp;<sup>23&nbsp;<\/sup>He said, \u201cI am&nbsp;the voice of one crying out in the wilderness, \u2018Make straight&nbsp;the way of the Lord,\u2019 as the prophet Isaiah said.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>24&nbsp;<\/sup>(Now they had been sent from the Pharisees.)&nbsp;<sup>25&nbsp;<\/sup>They asked him,&nbsp;\u201cThen why are you baptizing, if you are neither the Christ, nor Elijah, nor the Prophet?\u201d&nbsp;<sup>26&nbsp;<\/sup>John answered them,&nbsp;\u201cI baptize with water, but among you stands one you do not know,&nbsp;<sup>27&nbsp;<\/sup>even&nbsp;he who comes after me, the strap of whose sandal I am not worthy to untie.\u201d&nbsp;<sup>28&nbsp;<\/sup>These things took place in Bethany across the Jordan, where John was baptizing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>29&nbsp;<\/sup>The next day he saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, \u201cBehold,&nbsp;the Lamb of God, who&nbsp;takes away the sin&nbsp;of the world!&nbsp;<sup>30&nbsp;<\/sup>This is he of whom I said,&nbsp;\u2018After me comes a man who ranks before me, because he was before me.\u2019&nbsp;<sup>31&nbsp;<\/sup>I myself did not know him, but&nbsp;for this purpose I came baptizing with water, that he might be revealed to Israel.\u201d&nbsp;<sup>32&nbsp;<\/sup>And John&nbsp;bore witness:&nbsp;\u201cI saw the Spirit descend from heaven like a dove, and&nbsp;it remained on him.&nbsp;<sup>33&nbsp;<\/sup>I myself did not know him, but&nbsp;he who sent me to baptize&nbsp;with water said to me, \u2018He on whom you see the Spirit descend and remain,&nbsp;this is he who baptizes&nbsp;with the Holy Spirit.\u2019&nbsp;<sup>34&nbsp;<\/sup>And I have seen and have borne witness that this is the Son&nbsp;of God.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4
