Tim Grieves preached this sermon on Good Friday, April 10, 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Scripture Passage:<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Isaiah 52:13-52:12 (ESV)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>52:13 Behold,\u00a0my servant shall act wisely;<sup>[<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Isaiah+52&amp;version=ESV#fen-ESV-18710b\">b<\/a>]<\/sup><br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0he shall be high and lifted up,<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0and shall be exalted.<br><sup>14\u00a0<\/sup>As many were astonished at you\u2014<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0his appearance was so marred, beyond human semblance,<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0and his form beyond that of the children of mankind\u2014<br><sup>15\u00a0<\/sup>so\u00a0shall he sprinkle<sup>[<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Isaiah+52&amp;version=ESV#fen-ESV-18712c\">c<\/a>]<\/sup>\u00a0many nations.<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Kings shall shut their mouths because of him,<br>for that which has not been told them they see,<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0and that which they have not heard they understand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>53&nbsp;<\/strong>Who has believed what he has heard from us?<sup>[<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Isaiah+53&amp;version=ESV#fen-ESV-18713a\">a<\/a>]<\/sup><br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;And to whom has&nbsp;the arm of the&nbsp;Lord&nbsp;been revealed?<br><sup>2&nbsp;<\/sup>For he grew up before him like a young plant,<br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;and like a root out of dry ground;<br>he had no form or majesty that we should look at him,<br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;and no beauty that we should desire him.<br><sup>3&nbsp;<\/sup>He was despised and rejected<sup>[<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Isaiah+53&amp;version=ESV#fen-ESV-18715b\">b<\/a>]<\/sup>&nbsp;by men,<br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;a man of sorrows<sup>[<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Isaiah+53&amp;version=ESV#fen-ESV-18715c\">c<\/a>]<\/sup>&nbsp;and acquainted with<sup>[<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Isaiah+53&amp;version=ESV#fen-ESV-18715d\">d<\/a>]<\/sup>&nbsp;grief;<sup>[<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Isaiah+53&amp;version=ESV#fen-ESV-18715e\">e<\/a>]<\/sup><br>and as one from whom men hide their faces<sup>[<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Isaiah+53&amp;version=ESV#fen-ESV-18715f\">f<\/a>]<\/sup><br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;he was despised, and&nbsp;we esteemed him not.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>4&nbsp;<\/sup>Surely he has borne our griefs<br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;and carried our sorrows;<br>yet we esteemed him stricken,<br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;smitten by God, and afflicted.<br><sup>5&nbsp;<\/sup>But he was pierced for our transgressions;<br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;he was crushed for our iniquities;<br>upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace,<br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;and with his wounds we are healed.<br><sup>6&nbsp;<\/sup>All we like sheep have gone astray;<br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;we have turned\u2014every one\u2014to his own way;<br>and the&nbsp;Lord&nbsp;has laid on him<br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;the iniquity of us all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>7&nbsp;<\/sup>He was oppressed, and he was afflicted,<br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;yet he opened not his mouth;<br>like a&nbsp;lamb that is led to the slaughter,<br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;and like a sheep that before its shearers is silent,<br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;so he opened not his mouth.<br><sup>8&nbsp;<\/sup>By oppression and judgment he was taken away;<br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;and as for his generation,&nbsp;who considered<br>that he was cut off out of the land of the living,<br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;stricken for the transgression of my people?<br><sup>9&nbsp;<\/sup>And they made his grave with the wicked<br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;and with a rich man in his death,<br>although&nbsp;he had done no violence,<br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;and there was no deceit in his mouth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>10&nbsp;<\/sup>Yet&nbsp;it was the will of the&nbsp;Lord&nbsp;to crush him;<br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;he has put him to grief;<sup>[<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Isaiah+53&amp;version=ESV#fen-ESV-18722g\">g<\/a>]<\/sup><br>when his soul makes<sup>[<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Isaiah+53&amp;version=ESV#fen-ESV-18722h\">h<\/a>]<\/sup>&nbsp;an offering for guilt,<br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;he shall see his offspring;
