Tim Grieves preached this sermon on May 3rd, 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Scripture Passage:<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>John 11:1-16 (ESV)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>11&nbsp;<\/strong>Now a certain man was ill, Lazarus of Bethany, the village of&nbsp;Mary and her sister Martha.&nbsp;<sup>2&nbsp;<\/sup>It was Mary who anointed the Lord with ointment and wiped his feet with her hair, whose brother Lazarus was ill.&nbsp;<sup>3&nbsp;<\/sup>So the sisters sent to him, saying, \u201cLord,&nbsp;he whom you love is ill.\u201d&nbsp;<sup>4&nbsp;<\/sup>But when Jesus heard it he said,&nbsp;\u201cThis illness does not lead to death. It is for&nbsp;the glory of God, so that the Son of God may be glorified through it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>5&nbsp;<\/sup>Now&nbsp;Jesus loved Martha and her sister and Lazarus.&nbsp;<sup>6&nbsp;<\/sup>So, when he heard that Lazarus&nbsp;was ill,&nbsp;he stayed two days longer in the place where he was.&nbsp;<sup>7&nbsp;<\/sup>Then after this he said to the disciples,&nbsp;\u201cLet us go to Judea again.\u201d&nbsp;<sup>8&nbsp;<\/sup>The disciples said to him,&nbsp;\u201cRabbi,&nbsp;the Jews were just now seeking to stone you, and are you going there again?\u201d&nbsp;<sup>9&nbsp;<\/sup>Jesus answered,&nbsp;\u201cAre there not twelve hours in the day?&nbsp;If anyone walks in the day, he does not stumble, because he sees the light of this world.&nbsp;<sup>10&nbsp;<\/sup>But&nbsp;if anyone walks in the night, he stumbles, because the light is not&nbsp;in him.\u201d&nbsp;<sup>11&nbsp;<\/sup>After saying these things, he said to them,&nbsp;\u201cOur friend Lazarus&nbsp;has fallen asleep, but I go to awaken him.\u201d&nbsp;<sup>12&nbsp;<\/sup>The disciples said to him, \u201cLord, if he has fallen asleep, he will recover.\u201d&nbsp;<sup>13&nbsp;<\/sup>Now Jesus had spoken of his death, but they thought that he meant taking rest in sleep.&nbsp;<sup>14&nbsp;<\/sup>Then Jesus told them plainly,&nbsp;\u201cLazarus has died,&nbsp;<sup>15&nbsp;<\/sup>and for your sake I am glad that I was not there, so that you may believe.
