I have always taught in synagogues and in the temple, where all Jews come together.&nbsp;I have said nothing in secret.&nbsp;<sup>21&nbsp;<\/sup>Why do you ask me? Ask those who have heard me what I said to them; they know what I said.\u201d&nbsp;<sup>22&nbsp;<\/sup>When he had said these things, one of the officers standing by struck Jesus with his hand, saying,&nbsp;\u201cIs that how you answer the high priest?\u201d&nbsp;<sup>23&nbsp;<\/sup>Jesus answered him,&nbsp;\u201cIf what I said is wrong, bear witness about the wrong; but if what I said is right, why do you strike me?\u201d&nbsp;<sup>24&nbsp;<\/sup>Annas then sent him bound to&nbsp;Caiaphas the high priest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Peter Denies Jesus Again<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>25&nbsp;<\/sup>Now Simon Peter was standing and warming himself. So they said to him, \u201cYou also are not one of his disciples, are you?\u201d He denied it and said, \u201cI am not.\u201d&nbsp;<sup>26&nbsp;<\/sup>One of the servants of the high priest, a relative of&nbsp;the man whose ear Peter had cut off, asked, \u201cDid I not see you&nbsp;in the garden with him?\u201d&nbsp;<sup>27&nbsp;<\/sup>Peter again denied it, and&nbsp;at once a rooster crowed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Jesus Before Pilate<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>28&nbsp;<\/sup>Then they led Jesus&nbsp;from the house of Caiaphas to&nbsp;the governor&#8217;s headquarters.&nbsp;It was early morning. They themselves did not enter the governor&#8217;s headquarters,&nbsp;so that they would not be defiled,&nbsp;but could eat the Passover.&nbsp;<sup>29&nbsp;<\/sup>So Pilate went outside to them and said, \u201cWhat accusation do you bring against this man?\u201d&nbsp;<sup>30&nbsp;<\/sup>They answered him, \u201cIf this man were not doing evil, we would not have delivered him over to you.\u201d&nbsp;<sup>31&nbsp;<\/sup>Pilate said to them,&nbsp;\u201cTake him yourselves and judge him by your own law.\u201d The Jews said to him, \u201cIt is not lawful for us to put anyone to death.\u201d&nbsp;<sup>32&nbsp;<\/sup>This was to fulfill the word that Jesus had spoken&nbsp;to show by what kind of death he was going to die.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">My Kingdom Is Not of This World<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>33&nbsp;<\/sup>So Pilate entered his headquarters again and called Jesus and said to him,&nbsp;\u201cAre you the King of the Jews?\u201d&nbsp;<sup>34&nbsp;<\/sup>Jesus answered,&nbsp;\u201cDo you say this of your own accord, or did others say it to you about me?\u201d&nbsp;<sup>35&nbsp;<\/sup>Pilate answered, \u201cAm I a Jew? Your own nation and the chief priests have delivered you over to me. What have you done?\u201d&nbsp;<sup>36&nbsp;<\/sup>Jesus answered,&nbsp;\u201cMy kingdom&nbsp;is not of this world. If my kingdom were of this world,&nbsp;my servants would have been fighting, that&nbsp;I might not be delivered over to the Jews. But my kingdom is not from the world.\u201d&nbsp;<sup>37&nbsp;<\/sup>Then Pilate said to him, \u201cSo you are a king?\u201d Jesus answered,&nbsp;\u201cYou say that I am a king.&nbsp;For this purpose I was born and for this purpose&nbsp;I have come into the world\u2014to bear witness to the truth.&nbsp;Everyone who is&nbsp;of the truth&nbsp;listens to my voice.\u201d&nbsp;<sup>38&nbsp;<\/sup>Pilate said to him, \u201cWhat is truth?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After he had said this,&nbsp;he went back outside to the Jews and told them,&nbsp;\u201cI find no guilt in him.&nbsp;<sup>39&nbsp;<\/sup>But you have a custom that I should release one man for you at the Passover.
